What We Believe

What is a Methodist?

A Methodist believes that our faith begins within the Bible. From the stories and lessons within it we then add the traditions of the church over the last 2000 years, our own personal experiences and our God given ability to reason. This means that we are open to people who want to seek personal truth in their lives and be able to ask questions about faith.
As United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church's life and witness. To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to express faithfully the witness we make in our own time.

Two considerations are central to this endeavor: the sources from which we derive our theological affirmations and the criteria by which we assess the adequacy of our understanding and witness.

Wesley believed that the living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illumined by tradition, vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason.

At Hope . . .

We are a community of ordinary people who believe that God is real and present in our lives today. God loves us, his children so much that he sent his only son, Jesus, into the world.

The life, death and resurrection of Jesus provides us with the opportunity to experience God's unconditional love.

It is through this love and the power of the Holy Spirit that our lives can be turned into meaningful purposeful experiences.

When this community comes together, we know that HOPE can be found midst our hectic lives. When we meet together our hearts grow stronger toward God and with others we learn to live day-by-day as God's Children.
