Attend the Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop at Hope on March 14, 2015."The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ."Ephesians 4:12
Whom Is the Spirit Calling to Serve in Christ's Place?
Every day you see people who are hurting: those who have lost a job, lost a loved one, gone through a divorce, or are battling a terminal illness. Stephen Ministers are God's representativeswho bring His love to those who are hurting.God is waiting to make a difference in their lives through you!
As a Stephen Minister, you are not thrust into ministry alone. You receive 50 hours of in-class training, with reading, discussion and practice in how to support and help others effectively. This is a set of life skills you will use every day. It won't be easy, but it will be joyful, supportive, bonding and rewarding. You won't be tossed into deep wate r without knowing how to swim. No Stephen Minister is asked to do what he or she is not prepared to do. You will learn about the limits of confidentiality, how to pray with others and how to really listen. You will also learn that it is God who cures; you care, listen, support and pray. You are the disciplined friend who is presenton God's behalf and in Christ's place.
The ministry of lay Christian caregivers among us has been going on for five years. We thank God that He has given us the gift of these people. After having completed the training, our Stephen Ministers are now putting their skills and compassion to work, caring for people in and out of our congregation. Perhaps you should give some thought to becoming a Stephen Minister. Is the Spirit calling and stirring within you? Is this your gift? If you want to find out more about how you can be involved in this one-on-one caregiving ministry, contact Pastor Drew today.
