The Early Years

 

June 14, 1964

A Church in Rancho Bernardo is placed on the "Projects Sheet" of the Board of Missions.

 

February 10, 1976

First site selected by the District.  April 25, 1976, a first service was held in the Rancho Bernardo Swim and Tennis Club.

 

June 20, 1976

First Pastor appointed - Rev. Preston Price.
 
 
 

 

November 7, 1976.

The congregation moved to the multi-purpose room of Painted Rock Elementary School and on Nov. 7, 1976, San Diego County Hope UMC was chartered with 121 members.  Members included Fred and Kim Parks and Sue and Darrell Bratton.
 
 
 
In 1979, the grading started on the land and in 1981, a worship service was held at the sight where the church would be built.
 
A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on Sunday, July 18, 1982, at 16550 Bernardo Heights Parkway in Rancho Bernardo. And the congregation began to build their church.

 

 
On March 20, 1983, the last service was held at the school and led by the pastors the congregation entered the Sanctuary for its first worship service. 
Preston Price and Pastor Paul Biesemeyer conducted the service.

 Jean Price conducted the choir as the congregation filed in. Pastor R. Preston Price and Pastor Paul Biesemeyer conducted the service.

 

As of March 29, 1984, Hope had a membership of 442, and on June 30, 1985, Pastor Preston said his farewell to Hope United Methodist Church.
