Who Are United Methodist Women (UMW)?

To work to build a supportive community among women; to be an advocate for the oppressed and dispossessed with special attention to the needs of women and children; and to engage in activities that foster growth in the Christian faith, mission education, and Christian social involvement throughout the organization.

United Methodist Women are members and friends of local United Methodist Churches who desire an additional dimension of fellowship with each other; who accept the challenge to serve their church, community and the world, both as individuals and as a group and to seek a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Christian in today's world.
Nearly one million members comprise the national organization of United Methodist Women.  The Women's Division provides programs, staff, resources to local, district, and conference United Methodist Women.  Through this connection, UMW looks beyond their own neighborhoods and churches to respond to the needs of and to partner with women everywhere to make the world a safer, healthier, and better place.

When United Methodist Women make a Pledge to Mission, they are linked with each other and with more than 50,000 congregations around the world that are related to The United Methodist Church.  United Methodist Women are linked with a wide variety of Ministries done in the name of Jesus Christ.

Many women pray for, know about, volunteer in, and collect supplies for mission institutions that serve women, children, and teens in more than 100 community centers, schools, and residences nationally.

Through the Women's Division Committee on International Ministries with Women, Children, and Youth in cooperation with the other General Board program areas, United Methodist Women members share in mission on five continents outside the United States.

United Methodist Women

As one of the largest organizations of women in the world, we have the prayers, gifts and service to make a difference in your life and the lives of others.

As you will notice in the UMW Purpose we respond to joy, hurt and the pain of others; we study social issues and other countries; we get involved in legislation that affects human rights; we work for the common good of all; and we grow spiritually.
