Description of Program for older four and five-year-old Children
Children who participate in this program turn four prior to March 2, 2008.
Four/Five Combination
We have one class, which meets Monday/ Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday mornings from 9:00-12:00. There are 10 children per class, with a teacher. We, as a preschool staff, are committed to provide each child an opportunity to continue to grow and develop in a developmentally appropriate environment.
Components of our Four-year-old/Five-year-old Combination Class

Each child is viewed as a unique individual, with differing learning styles and levels of ability

Staff provides a nurturing, loving and safe environment

Children are provided experiences, which stimulate learning in all developmental areas - Social, Emotional, Physical, Intellectual and Spiritual

Children participate in a weekly Chapel program designed to help them gain an understanding of God and what value they have in this world

Children participate in and lead daily grace

Exploration and interactions with other children, adults and learning materials are encouraged through our specially designed environment

Children are allowed to select many of their own activities, which may include dramatic play, blocks, science, math, language, puzzles, art, tactile and manipulative activities

Children are encouraged to problem solve and experiment

Opportunities for children to develop social skills such as cooperation, helping, negotiating are provided

Opportunities are provided which develop basic skills that are meaningful to children such as how reading and writing are useful, opportunities for dictation, book making, name recognition and writing, letter and number recognition and writing

Opportunities are provided for children to develop phonetic awareness, sounds, rhyming, word games

Activities are provided for children to develop language and literacy: listening and reading stories and poems, field trips, music, seeing the printed word in use, participating in dramatic play, informal conversations, experimenting with writing, drawing and copying

Opportunities are provided for children to develop an understanding about themselves, others and the world around them

Children have daily opportunities for large and fine motor development
