2012 Western Jurisdictional Changes

As of July 1, 2012 the seven mainland districts of the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has been merged into four California districts now called North, South, East, and West Districts.  The Hawaii District remains the same.  This change results in fewer District Superintendents and District Offices and thus reduces administrative costs to the Conference.  Rev. Minerva Carcano, currently serving as Bishop of the Desert Southwest Conference, has been appointed Bishop of the Cal-Pac Conference and will assume her new duties on September 1.

Our church is now part of the South District which comprises the former San Diego District, the area up the coast as far north as Huntington Beach, and the north inland area as far east as Hemet.  Rev. Myron Wingfield, District Superintendent of the former San Diego District, has been appointed DS for the newly formed South District.

The South District is divided into 12 Mission Areas where churches can work together on local projects.  For the last several years, our church has been a part of the North County San Diego Mission Area.  In addition to Hope UMC, the North County San Diego Mission Area includes Fallbrook, Escondido First, Vista, San Luis Rey (in Oceanside), North Coast (in Oceanside), North County Korean, and San Marcos United Methodist Churches.

Here is the hierarchy showing the placement of our church within the California-Pacific jurisdictional structure, as well as the placement of the United Methodist denomination within the body of believers:

God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

  Jesus Christ the Son

The Body of Christ - the Church of all Believers

      The Protestant Branch

        Wesleyan/Methodist Churches

          United Methodist Church

            Western Jurisdiction

              California-Pacific Annual Conference

                South District

North County San Diego Mission Area

                    Hope United Methodist Church

Praise God, when we want to talk to Jesus, we do not need to go through all of those layers
of history and organization. We can just say, "Dear Jesus. . ." and we have the direct line to God!
